„ So, what does this project actually mean? “

Our primary goal is the digital preservation of this valuable archive. The capital currently available will be used to acquire the necessary equipment for digitization and to finance the complex processing of special photo, film, and video formats.

Digitizing analog media is an expensive, complex, and time-consuming process. Specialized equipment and software are needed to convert films, tapes, photos, and paper documents into digital formats. High-quality scanners and film scanners, in particular, are often costly.

Additionally, personnel are required to operate the equipment and perform the digitization accurately. This involves preparing the analog media, carrying out the actual digitization, and post-processing to ensure the digital copies are of high quality.

Furthermore, the digital files need to be securely stored and archived, which adds costs for storage media and data backup solutions. In some cases, additional issues must also be addressed, incurring further resources and expenses.

Overall, the costs for hardware, software, personnel, and storage solutions add up, making the digitization of analog media an ambitious and expensive endeavor. This project involves several thousand images and hundreds of hours of film, as well as numerous other items in the memorabilia segment.

Within this process we hope to lay the foundation for future projects, including books, exhibitions, performances, and merchandise that will present the work and history of Tangerine Dream in an impressive manner.

It is worth noting that this entire project has been personally initiated and supervised by Edgar and Monika Froese’s son, Jerome Froese. As the sole remaining contemporary witness of almost all decades of Tangerine Dream, Jerome Froese is passionately committed to preserving the visual legacy of his parents and the band for the future.

Another remarkable aspect of the Tangerine Dream photo archive is the artistic work of Monika Froese. A renowned artist in film and photography, she not only documented Tangerine Dream but also created works that are regarded as art, featured on various album covers and publications.

Tangerine Dream has been and continues to be a significant musical influence on many prominent artists and has shaped the film music genre of the 1980s.

It is vital that we ensure the visual legacy of this legendary band is preserved for long-term accessibility and conservation for future generations.

Let’s go for it!
